The Pros And Cons Of The Atkins Diet Menu

The Pros And Cons Of The Atkins Diet Menu

Supporters of the Atkins Diet Menu believe that one of its benefits is that you aren’t stuck on a specific set menu. While the Atkins diet does offer a certain degree of structure, you can feel free to make substitutions whenever it fits into the confines of the diet. In following through with the menu, you can drink as much decaffeinated coffee, tea, soda water or Splenda sweetened soft drinks as you wish. In fact, they recommend that you drink at least 64 ounces of fluids per day. If you drink beverages, you need to count the carbohydrates in your drinks.

The Atkins Diet Menu is very big on protein. Eggs in many forms and bacon can make up a typical breakfast. Sausage patties, omelets and sausage links or ham patties are acceptable breakfasts. Atkins also makes specialized muffins and special hot cereal that are considered acceptable for a breakfast on the Atkins diet menu.

The Atkins Diet Menu supports three larger meals per day. Lunches can include chicken salad with mayonnaise, boiled eggs, hard cheese, pork rinds with tuna salad as a dressing, rolled meats and salad greens. Detractors of the Atkins diet menu feel that the excesses of fat, such as is found in “unlimited” pork rinds is completely dangerous and unhealthy to consume. While salad greens are acceptable, the amount of dressing allowed is excessive and doesn’t pay attention to the amount of fat in the salad dressing.

Dinners on the Atkins Diet Menu are also filled with fat and protein. Fried fish is allowed, butter, steak grilled in garlic butter, meat sauce with spaghetti squash, creamy almond chicken and fried pork chops. Vegetables are allowed with butter. In fact, any meat is allowed in this diet plan and is, in fact, promoted.

Those who are against the Atkins Diet Menu believe that it is a heart attack diet waiting to happen. It contains everything doctors tell you are bad for you-things that increase your cholesterol and promote heart disease. It is not likely to promote diabetes-one of the highest risk factors for heart disease-but the amount of fat and cholesterol in the diet is much above what most doctors recommend.

Still, there are those that have lost weight on the Atkins Diet Menu when followed carefully. Its success has continued for decades and there are people who firmly believe that this diet has helped them stay healthy. There are those that believe this is the diet that our distant ancestors ate and one that we are destined physiologically to follow.

The Atkins diet menu is perfect for those that prefer meats over carbohydrates. An individual that just can’t stay away from meats and eggs would do well to follow this kind of diet over one that supports the use of a lot of carbohydrates. Other people seem to prefer carbohydrates do not do well with this kind of diet and need to be on another type of diet plan that restricts proteins and fats.

Italy (PRWEB) January 18, 2010

Diets and dieting have been a source of confusion among the general population increasingly over the past decade, according to the National Board For Preserving the Italian Healthy Eating Traditions president, Dr. Enrico Forte. Maintaining that the world’s healthiest diet is the Mediterranean diet, Dr. Forte has launched a free e-book named “The Definitive Guide To The Mediterranean Diet”and diet planner.

Worth 0.00, the diet and diet planner are available from his non-profit site www.mediterraneanbook.com, located in Italy.

The content of the book comprises information about healthy eating and cooking healthy meals, how to lose weight effectively and permanently, low fat recipes, and other dieting queries posed by the subscribers who signed up between 2004-2009.

“The Mediterranean Diet involves simple changes to ensure a longer and healthier life without sacrificing all the good things in the process.” says Dr. Forte, “It is the world’s healthiest diet.”

“The advantage of the Mediterranean Diet as opposed to other diets is that it is not a fad diet. However, nor is it a way to lose weight fast. It is a way to integrate a variety of healthier foods into your diet, and in doing so, losing excess weight gradually but permanently.”

“It also works as a diet to lower blood pressure.”

The National Board for Preserving the Italian Healthy Eating Traditions was established 6 years ago in Italy to encourage healthy eating, prevent and combat obesity and diseases. It is an online nutritional guide designed to educate everyone, including those who work in the health and nutrition industries, about healthy eating. The site is approved by HONCode verifying its authority and trustworthiness as a source of information in the medical and health related fields.

“The Definitive Guide To The Mediterranean Diet” includes information about the basis of the diet, tasty recipes for one week, and access to a range of online resources available for download, including an excel spreadsheet for tracking progress.

Foods used in the Mediterranean diet recipes include those rich in anti-oxidants – such as tomatoes, kiwis, strawberries, and red wine; protein – whole grains, yoghurt, nuts, and cheese; and the oil for which the Mediterranean is so famous: olive oil. Olive oil is high in monounsaturated fat which is best known for its ability to reduce cholesterol.

The Mediterranean diet meal plan also includes calorie controlled portions and at the end, a breakdown as to the benefits each of the food utilized in the recipes.

Dr. Forte is confident that millions around the world can benefit from the knowledge he is providing. Nevertheless he is careful to emphasise that this information is not designed to replace the relationship between a person and their physician, merely to support it. He is convinced that poor education of dietary requirements today is the cause of increased obesity and that using – and adapting – the Mediterranean Diet’s low cholesterol diet menu provided in the free download can contribute significantly to reducing this.

“The Mediterranean Diet E-book is available free as everyone deserves to enjoy the quality of life and healthy weight balance that the low fat diet plan of the Mediterranean Diet provides.” Says Dr. Forte. “We at the National Board for the Preservation of Italian Healthy Eating Traditions are very happy to be the ones to provide it free of charge.”

Dr. Enrico Forte was born in Italy and has a Masters Degree in Nutritional Sciences from the Catania University. He currently promotes the Mediterranean Diet via his website mediterraneanbook.com, public speaking engagements and online reviews of his e-book, which allow the reviewer to distribute the book under his/her own brand or business name for free.

This book is well written and easy to understand. It really explains how and why to detox. It actually has daily menu plans that you can actually use. No wierd foods or herbs just everyday food you can find at your local grocer or farmers market. I have read many books on detox and this is by far the best I have read. I finally can start detox rather than just reading about it. Thank you Dr Haas, BRILLIANT

I bought this book along with the 21 day detox by Roni DeLuz. Both methods work, Dr. Roni’s gets the most weight loss, but I think Dr. Haas’s book is more comprehensive. It gives information on total body detox, and also provides specific detoxes for those who want to focus on a particular substance (alcohol, sugar and caffeine are examples). I find the food combining priciples and the recipes easier to adopt. I would recommend it – its a good reference and instruction manual for detox and clean, healthy eating.

Used judiciously, “The New Detox Diet” is of great help if you would like to rid yourself of bad nutritional habits. The title diet is meant to be used primarily as a temporary cleanse. It involves eating primarily fresh vegetables, a little fresh fruit, a little whole grains, and a little protein (beans, fish, or chicken). There are additional chapters on juice cleanses, elimination diets for the identification of food sensitivities, a modified version of the Detox Diet for longer term use, and recipes. I had gotten into a rut of eating large amounts of bread and cheese and drinking several glasses of wine each night, so I did the Detox Diet for 10 days. I find I have minimal cravings for sugar and alcohol now, and although I still love bread and cheese I do a better job with portion control. A word of warning: The chapter on the basic Detox Diet provides diet rules and also a sample menu. I found that if I followed the sample menu strictly, I wasn’t getting enough calories and I was quite weak. So be careful to include some higher calorie vegetables (potatoes, avocados, etc.) and/or follow the recommendations for calorie supplementation.

This book contains simple information for the lay person. Much of the information is straight forward making it an easy introduction into detoxing. Some things such as supplements and herbs I had to look up but this has been a very informative process. One issue I had with this book, which can be both a pro and a con, is that it gives many permutations of mixing and matching your own plan. This is great if you already know what might work for you or not so great if you want something a bit more concrete. This book has lost a star for being ‘fluffy’ and repeating information in various guises throughout the book. I realise that it is dificult to be firm on what is an alternative approach to health but the information could be significantly condensed. Overall however the use of this book has been a very healthy education.

    6. EmzilyD says:

This sounds fairly logical, but I don’t think I would want to cut out all of the foods it asks you to cut out and I eat pretty healthy as it is. Besides everyone tells me that I don’t need to lose any weight, but I think it would work if someone decided to really stick to it

There are tons of research about the effects of insulin. Why in the hell it’s so hard to accept this fact. Is it because people are so brainwashed that wholegrain is so damn good. Whole grain is better than white bread, but not so much that you should eat it all the time.

Schlechter Beitrag.

The zone diet works and is actually healthy and comfortable to be on. It’s nearly the same as Dan Duchaines Isocaloric diet. Very good diet for bodybuilders.

I agree with crumbfast!! isulin makes u fat!

    25. crumbfish says:

It IS a fact that insulin has EVERYTHING to do with storing fat. Over fat people have hyperinsulinism. This is due to eating too many carbs, too much refined carbs – read: high fructose corn syrup, and not getting enough exercise. This shuts down the body’s insulin receptors and leads to hyperinsulinism and too much stored fat. Incidentally, this is actually low-grade type II diabetes. You are not a diabetic yet, but you are not normal either. This is reversible, as is type 2 diabetes.

    26. mariannna1981 says:

I am a person who has the weight 156 pounds and I’m 1m64 and as I do not feel very well

      very informative thanks.

    29. javila0212 says:

      nope

    30. TaeIeon says:

did someone understand what he said?

    31. Annette says:

Why would you want to eat that little? That’s so low it’s unhealthy and you won’t lose weight.

    32. Osku says:

Dieting is very bad for your health. 600 -800 calories per day will starve your body and may cause organ and heart damage. Your body will literally eat itself to make up for the deficiency. You’ll lose muscle tissue as well as fat. What’s scary is that some of it will even come from your heart muscle. Dieting does not work. Change of lifestyle is the only healthy and permanent way to lose weight. If you’re looking for an “easy” way to lose weight, there isn’t one. Losing weight is not easy. If it was, we’d all be skinny. The average person needs roughly 2,000 calories per day with moderate activity to stay healthy and to prevent weight gain. Anything less starves the body.

In principle losing weight is simple – burn more calories than you eat. In other words, if you’re overweight, eat less (2,000 calories is good) and move more. The hard part is consistency and staying motivated. Losing weight is hard work, but rewarding when you see results. A weight loss program is a permanent change of your habits that should last the rest of your life. Before making radical changes to your diet and starting excercise routines, it would be wise to consult with your physician.

Most people know what healthy eating is so I don’t need to say much about it; more vegetables, fruit and whole grains, less meat and processed foods.

Drink lots and lots of water. We’re supposed to drink atleast six to eight glasses of water every day. Water is vital for organ functioning, metabolism and therefore for weightloss as well. Water also helps make you feel full.

A little hunger in the middle of the day won’t hurt you. Learn to ignore it or reach for celery or other low fat, low calorie filler to fend off between meal hunger pangs.

A safe rate of weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs per week and is more likely to stay off long term. Be kind to your body.
