At the very least, by the time you finish this article you’ll know about several pitfalls that you should avoid.
Crash diets are very common mistake a lot of people fall into. These are diets where you basically reduce your dietary intake until you’re hardly eating at all. In fact some of them are full-blown fast, where you eat nothing for a period of time of up to 30 days. It’s hardly shocking that you lose weight when you do this, because you’re basically starving. However, your body recognises this fact, and will fight against it. The first thing it will do is slow down its metabolism to try and preserve what little calories it has, and then it will start breaking down the tissues in the body that can most easily be turned into energy. Sadly, this is not the fat. So you’re actually find that you be losing tissues such as muscles before you start reducing fat. When a person comes off of one of these crash diets, they usually find that they start putting weight back on a shocking rate. This is because the body is trying to undo the damage which was caused by the period of starvation.
the second common mistake that lots of people make is doing lots of stomach or abdominal exercises to burn up the fact in the stomach area. Because these exercises are directed towards the muscles in the stomach, people think it will help them to lose stomach fat. Sadly, this is just not the case. These exercises are designed to help build up muscles, not to burn fat. Although they can give your muscles a very thorough workout, they just don’t burn much energy at all. To lose weight you need to burn energy, as the fat is a store of energy.
Thirdly, there are the overhyped weight loss pills. These are often just harmful stimulants which are marketed as miracle cures. What they do is cause the body to burn energy rapidly by stimulating the thyroid and other organs within the body, essentially sending the metabolism into overdrive. But they have a harmful effect on the body too, and can cause organ failure in some cases. Some people are more susceptible to the harm caused by these drugs than others, but in general it’s not a good thing to do. Not all diet pills fall into this category, and there are some supplements which are designed to help you with a diet and exercise routine. Any time you see a pill advertised that claims to be able to make you lose weight without dieting or exercising, you should be extremely cautious.
